This summer, take a dip in the Canal Saint-Martin !

Swimming in Paris ? It's possible ! Follow us to the Canal Saint-Martin, where a swimming area has been set up for the summer.

It's a must when visiting Paris and the 10th arrondissement. The Canal Saint-Martin stretches between Rue du Faubourg du Temple in the south and the Place de la Bataille de Stalingrad in the north, where it becomes the Canal de l'Ourcq. Popular with Parisians who like to stroll along it all year round, as well as taking to its banks in summer, it is now home to a swimming area.

Every Sunday from 9 July to 20 August 2023, the City of Paris has introduced a bathing area, accessible free of charge between 12 noon and 4pm. A pontoon has been installed : it is accessible at 116 quai de Jemmapes (opposite the Villemin garden), allowing you to enjoy a supervised swimming area around 100 metres long, on the canal. The area is also equipped with deckchairs for those who want to relax after a swim. Finally, if you want to change and shower on site, you can use the changing rooms at the nearby Jemmapes gymnasium.

Paris City Council is reassuring visitors about the quality of the canal water: it is checked before opening time, and staff have the right to close the zone if there is the slightest doubt about the quality of the water, or in the event of bad weather. The canal locks are also closed while the zone is open to ensure the safety of bathers.
