Known for its Sacré Coeur basilica, Place du Tertre, museums, narrow cobbled streets and everything else that makes up this historic artists' quarter, the Butte Montmartre is one of the most visited places in Paris every year.

This influx inevitably calls into question road traffic in this coveted area.

As part of the ‘Embellir le quartier de Montmartre’ initiative, the Town Hall of the 18th arrondissement of Paris has announced plans to pedestrianise the Butte Montmartre.

This change applies only to the top of the Butte, and is designed to green up the public space, making it safer and calmer, while reducing the nuisance caused by traffic.

To make the most of Montmartre on foot this summer, work has already begun on the pedestrianisation scheme. The work should be completed by 31 August 2025.

Enjoy the ride!
