Created in 1984 by the jewellery house of the same name, the institution has established itself as a creative laboratory where art, design, photography, music and science come together. With its new building designed by Jean Nouvel and its inaugural exhibition, ‘Exposition Générale’, the Foundation is embarking on an ambitious new chapter, faithful to its mission: to foster dialogue between today's artists and tomorrow's world.

True to its mission, the Fondation Cartier is committed to supporting contemporary creation and sharing its richness with the public. Each year, it designs original exhibitions – sometimes thematic, sometimes devoted to a single artist – and regularly commissions new works to enrich its collection. Its scope extends far beyond the visual arts: photography, cinema, design, performing arts, performance and even science come together in a constant dialogue between disciplines.

In October 2025, the Fondation Cartier will open a new chapter in its history by moving to 2, Place du Palais-Royal, in the heart of Paris. Designed by architect Jean Nouvel, the building combines a Haussmann-style façade with contemporary interiors covering more than 8,500 m², including 6,500 m² dedicated to exhibitions. This move marks a major milestone for the institution, which has seen its surface area increase and is now more firmly established than ever in the Parisian cultural landscape.

To mark its opening in this new location, the Foundation is presenting the exhibition ‘Exposition Générale’ (from 25 October 2025 to 23 August 2026), which brings together nearly 600 works by more than 100 artists from around the world.
This is an opportunity to look back on 40 years of artistic commitment in a new setting.
